This is the common feeling about the plane, in France. But I'm not here for that. I just wanted to bring some facts in the debate.
Sincerely i expect more information about this great plane (is too dificcult to find new info about Rafale)
Yes ! This is a very difficult quest !
I may help you, but I wouldn't know what to start with !
In addition, I don't know what is really new to non French people...
For example, one of the last information we got is that it is now planned that the first production Rafale equiped with AESA is to be delivered in 2012 to the French AdA (and with a new DDM also -Détecteur de Départ Missile- (a system detecting incoming missiles when they are launched).
Researches on a new M88 (ECO) are under progress, but I don't know when it's for. The M88 ECO has two objectives, in two variants :
1) improve life time of critical parts, and thus, through life costs.
2) improve thrust (up to 90kN ab).
Its OSF (a kind of Pirate, but with additional independant TV channel for identification + laser range finder) is also to be improved, also, the 51 ordered F3 standards won't be equiped with their OSF to save money. By 2012, the OSF-IP -ImProved- should be ready, with more range, and a better all weather capability.
Also under work : full GBU and JDAM capability for full US compatibility (for export customers), ready for 2009.
Except the M88 ECO, all i told you is part of the "Rafale Roadmap", a program to ensure that some equipements (AESA radar, DDM, OSF-IP) will be developped whatever happens, and make the aircraft more attractive... Lessons from Korea and Singapore.
I hope this help a bit...
Well, it's a bit off topic, so I stop now...
