- Dos CFTs para un total de 3000 libras adicionales de combustible, a grosso modo equivalente a dos tanques subalares de 480 galones. Con los CFTs el radio de combate se extiende a los - cita textual - "high 700s". O sea rozando las 800 millas náuticas. Con los CFTs y el tanque ventral son 800+.
- Nótese el IRST interno montado en la pequeña canoa en el morro. La canoa aloja la óptica del IRST, la unidad de procesamiento va detrás en el morro.
- Motores F-414 EPE, 20% de empuje adicional por sobre el F-414-400 en los SH del Navy. La sección caliente del motor tiene vida de 6000 horas, que para los Indios va a ser una revelación acostumbrados como están a turbinas Rusas tan intensivas en mantenimiento.
- Nueva aviónica. El panel de instrumentos está dominado por una sola pantalla "touch screen" de 19 x 11 pulgadas que presenta datos e imágenes recogidas por los sensores a bordo y sensores remotos en red en 3D, algo que el departamento de mercadeo de Boeing llama "God's Eye View" (
). No me pregunten cómo, no tengo NPI... lo que si van a tener que ser más específcos porque los Indios tienen como 2000 Dioses. La idea es que el piloto va acomodando con los dedos la información que le interesa en el momento, agrandado y achicando las ventanas de modo muy similar a como se hace en un iPhone.
- Nuevos sistemas de alerta con cobertura 360º, el equipo lo provee una compañía Israelí e incluye el sistema de apertura distribuída, RWR, alertador láser y alertador de aproximación de misiles.
- Finalmente ese pod grandote en la estación ventral. Aloja cuatro AMRAAMs o un loadout mixto para misiones de ataque. Configuraciones típicas serían:
a) Dos AMRAAMs y una bomba de 2000 libras
b) Dos AMRAAMs y una bomba de 1000 libras
c) Dos AMRAAMs y dos bombas de 500 libras
d) Dos AMRAAMs y cuatro SDBs
