El 3 de diciembre de 2012, el gobierno israelí negoció con Jordania el “permiso” para bombardear los arsenales químicos del régimen sirio. Sin embargo, las autoridades jordanas se han negado hasta ahora a conceder la autorización.

Clashes were reoccured between rebel and regime forces in the perimeter of the A'qraba town, along with regime bombardment on the area. The towns and cities of Beit Sahem, al-Mleiha and al-M'adamiya were bombarded by regular forces. Clashes are taking place between rebel and regime forces on the Damascus- al-Qneitra road at the al-Hseiniya area. The Douma city and Shab'a town were bombarded by regular forces at midnight, with no reports of human losses.

Syrian army advances in strategic Damascus suburb as rebels gain ground in the north

DAMASCUS, Syria — Syrian troops advanced in a strategic suburb of Damascus and bombarded other areas around the capital Saturday in a push to secure President Bashar Assad’s seat of power as rebels make gains in the north.

A government official said regime forces had taken much of Daraya, an area on the edge of a major military air base just south of the capital, after nearly two months of heavy fighting that anti-regime activists say has killed dozens of people and uprooted tens of thousands more from their homes.

The announcement came a day after rebels and Islamic militants seeking to topple Assad took full control of the northwestern Taftanaz air base in a significant blow to the military. The back-to-back declarations highlight the see-saw nature of the conflict in Syria, where one side’s victories in one area are often followed by reverses in another.

In other violence, athletic champion Hisham Raqsha was shot to death in Damascus while on his way back home, according to the Observatory and state-run news agency SANA. SANA said Raqsha was the coach of Syria’s walking team. His age and other details were not available.

Syrian troops have been battling since November to regain Daraya from the hands of anti-government fighters. The suburb is flanked by the key districts of Mazzeh, which is home to the military air base of the same name, and Kfar Sousseh, which holds the government headquarters, the General Security intelligence agency head office and the Interior Ministry.

It also is less than 10 kilometers (six miles) from the People’s Palace — one of three palaces in the capital used by Assad.

The government official told The Associated Press in Damascus that the army still faced “small pockets” of resistance but he expected the area to be cleared in a few days. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.

Rami Abdul-Rahman, who heads the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, acknowledged “the army has entered most of Daraya’s neighborhoods.” He added the number of casualties on both sides was high after weeks of fighting.

“Daraya is very important for the regime because the Mazzeh airport is a main artery for it,” Abdul-Rahman said.

Daraya, which had a population of about 200,000 before the fighting, has been a stronghold of support for the rebels fighting the government since the start of the uprising in March 2011, posing a particularly grave threat to the capital.

In August, troops backed by tanks stormed the town after several days of siege, with hundreds reportedly killed. Most residents have fled to safer areas since the latest offensive began, leaving only about 10,000 civilians who are facing electricity cuts and dwindling food, fuel and medical supplies. A heavy snow storm last week only worsened the suffering of those left behind.

The Local Council opposition group says more than 1,300 people have been killed in Daraya since the uprising began. The council says 1,000 of its residents are in Assad’s jails. Claims by both sides are impossible to verify because of restrictions on reporting in the country.

Todo esto demuestra únicamente que las fuerzas de Assad han sido incapaces de mantener el entorno de Damasco en condiciones de seguridad relativa y que sus ofensivas necesitan meses, incluyendo el empleo de artillería pesada y bombardeos aéreos, para tener éxito... ¿temporal?

Mientras tanto, el gobierno sigue reconociendo las estrecheces respecto al suministro de los servicios básicos a la población. Ahora el ministro de la cosa llama a la población a racionar el uso de la electricidad.

Parece que no siempre son las víctimas: en su caso, al comenzar el conflicto ("la revolución", según él), expulsaron a las familias alauitas que vivían en el pueblo.

Driver: That vehicle is very good suitable for transporting infantry. Due to its high speed it is very effective on the battlefield (ie when you see bmp sitting duck on battlefield you know its crew is doing something wrong). Firepower is provided with reliable 30mm gun and PKT machinegun. Only serious drawback is low armor protection. But fast and maneuverable.
Reporter: Do you have enough firepower (for your tasks) and what you would like to change in BMP?
Driver: Firepower for such vehicle is good enough but would like to have additional protection. Then it could become best IFV in the world. In every location - swamps or desert it keeps great maneuverability and speed.
Reporter: what's main use of BMP now?
Driver: delivering troops for attack and fire suport missions.
Reporter: how long you're fighting already on BMP?
Driver: Serving on BMP for long time, but on that particular one - two months. I'm driving BMP for really long time and can not find serious drawbacks except low armor and still anyway works nicely as tank sometimes
Reporter: How often it gets broken and what are major types of malfunctions?
Driver: Practically nothing breaks ever. I was shot at from RPG like 50 times already (i guess this is where number 50 appears in interview with the gunner) and every time great mobility and speed were saving me. Easy to drive. But experience matters anyway.
Driver: We support our president and think he's great man. I would like to say to syrian people: victory is unavoidable and we are ready to do anything for it.

Ojala aparecieran mas unidades del ESL para que funcionen de contrapeso en oposición a los radícale salafistas, ya sean cristianos, mas kurdos o los mismos musulmanes.
