LUZ VERDE PARA EL NUEVO VEHÍCULO DE COMBATE DE INFANTERIA ALEMAN.

Alemania aprobó el proyecto más importante de la industria de sistemas terrestres de su país, el vehículo de combate de infantería Puma. El contrato para la producción inicial de baja cadencia está valorado en, aproximadamente, 650 millones de euros y se ha otorgado a Projekt System und Management (PSM), filial al 50 por ciento de Rheinmetall Landsysteme y Krauss-Maffei. En total, el Ejército germano recibirá 410 unidades, valoradas en 3.050 millones. Comprende una opción válida hasta el 2007 para la fabricación a plena escala. Ofrece un grado de protección de la tripulación y de supervivencia inigualado, incluyendo contra granadas y cohetes.

BAE SYSTEMS CONSIGUE UN CONTRATO DE 749 MILLONES EN HOLANDA.

El grupo británico de aeronáutica y defensa BAE Systems se ha hecho con un contrato para el suministro de 184 blindados CV90 al Ejército holandés, por 749 millones de euros. Las entregas se realizarán entre 2007 y 2010.

El grupo británico de aeronáutica y defensa BAE Systems se ha hecho con un contrato para el suministro de 184 blindados CV90 al Ejército holandés, por 749 millones de euros. Las entregas se realizarán entre 2007 y 2010.

Se sabe que versión del CV90???.... porque el sistema es bastante prolifico en versiones, aunque seguro que se tratata de una de las versiones VCI.

Lo otro es la diferencia de precio con el Puma... (cerca de un 33% más barato). Quizas eso explique porque no fueron a un producto aleman como es la tradicion del ejercito holandes.

Super buena acotación, pero igual generalmente las compras jugosas se marchaban al vecino.... los M-109 llegaron porque no habia algo equivalente en Alemania, pero cuando salio el PZH 2000 se compró casi de inmediato. En el caso del Patria (ese es el XA-188, o ando perdido???) Alemania todavia no desarrollaba un nuevo APC a ruedas despues del horrible Luchzs y del Fuchs... y el contrato de la versión holandesa del M-113 me parece anterior al desarrollo del Marder. La diferencia que queria hacer notar es que en este monento si habia un competidor alemán en condiciones de ganr el concurso.

Aquí teneis las características del nuevo Schützenpanzer del Bundewehr, como podreis ver todavía esta en desarrollo, aunque son nada mas y nada menos que 32 toneladas de vehículo blindado puediendo alcanzar las 41 ( el carro de combate AMX-30 pesaba 36 y el T-72 45), puede que me equivoque pero me recuerda en cierto modo al Bradley norteamericano (36 tn de peso, aunque con una potencia de fuego inferior)

REFORMA EN LAS FUERZAS ARMADAS.

El jefe del Estado Mayor de la Defensa, general Félix Sanz Roldán, ha anunciado que con la nueva estructura del Estado Mayor de la Defensa se suprimirá el Estado Mayor Conjunto (EMACON) y se creará un mando de operaciones y un centro de inteligencia militar.
La principal novedad de la reestructuración, encargada por el ministro de Defensa tras los informes sobre el siniestro del Yak-42, es la creación de un centro de operaciones que estará compuesto por cien cuadros de mando. Su misión será dirigir las acciones conjuntas de los tres ejércitos, las misiones en el extranjero, el adiestramiento conuunto y la organización del transporte estratégico.
El futuro Centro de Inteligencia de la Fuerzas Armadas (CIFAS) se encargará exclusivamente de proporcionar “inteligencia militar” al ministro y a las autoridades militares para las misiones que desempeñen.

LAS FAS ESPAÑOLAS NO PODRÁN PARTICIPAR EN GUERRAS SIN LA AUTORIZACIÓN DE LA ONU

La futura Ley Orgánica de la Defensa Nacional establece que las Fuerzas Armadas españolas no podrán participar en ninguna operación no autorizada por la ONU o por las organizaciones internacionales a las que pertenece España, o que vulnere el derecho internacional. Así se expone en el anteproyecto de ley que el Gobierno pretende aprobar en breve. Esta norma impone la obligación de consultar al Parlamento antes de ordenar la participación del Ejército en cualquier operación “que no esté relacionada con la defensa de España”.
Además se crea un Consejo de Defensa que asesoraría al presidente en caso de conflicto y sustituirá a la Junta de Defensa Nacional que presidía el Rey.

EL PENTÁGONO REDUCE EL PRESUPUESTO PARA LA COMPRA DE ARMAMENTO.

El Departamento de Defensa de Estados Unidos prepara una gran reducción de gastos en la compra de nuevo armamento a fin de reestructurar y reducir el déficit. El objetivo es ahorrar 60.000 millones en gastos en los próximos diez años. Estos recortes se deben al creciente déficit y al objetivo de Rumsfeld de modernizar a fondo las Fuerzas Armadas, especialmente el Ejército de Tierra, que ganará efectivos. La Marina y la Fuerza Aérea se verán muy afectados, ya que el plan prevé dar de baja uno de los grandes portaaviones actualmente en servicio, el “John F. Kennedy”, y reducir algunas de las inversiones previstas en nuevos proyectos de armamento.

AURICULARES TACTICOS MAS CONFORTABLES.

Los auriculares y micrófono táctico, diseñados para fuerzas de operaciones especiales estadounidenses, se han rediseñado con materiales más ligeros y durables, que permitan utilizarlos durante periodos más largos de tiempo. Se ha obtenido un mayor confort, gracias a la miniaturización y a estudios de ergonomía, con un auricular un 25 por ciento más pequeño y mayor aislamiento contra el ruido.

MÁS EXPORTACIONES DE ARMAMENTO ESPAÑOL.

El Gobierno ha enviado al Congreso una nueva versión del informe sobre exportaciones de material de defensa y doble uso durante el año 2003, en la que se señala que las exportaciones subieron un 39,5 por ciento con respecto al año anterior, y no el 17,2 por ciento que se decía en el anterior informe. Ahora se ha incluido la venta de cinco aviones.

Israel seeks to stop sale of Russian weapons to Syria

JERUSALEM — Israel is trying to halt a weapons deal under which Russia agreed to supply advanced anti-aircraft missiles to Syria, fearing the missiles could fall into the hands of Lebanese guerrillas, Israeli officials said yesterday.
Israeli officials said the deal for the sale of the Igla SA-18s was signed several days ago. They are worried that the anti-aircraft missiles could be used by Lebanon's Hezbollah guerrillas, who have attacked Israel's northern border. The United States also could be concerned the missiles could be obtained by Iraqi insurgents, analysts said.


A deputy Russian foreign minister is in the region to discuss the matter, Israeli officials said on the condition of anonymity.
Asked about the deal, Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said, "We have close contacts with the Russians. We had consultations over the past few days, and we hope to reach the necessary agreement."
The press service of Russia's main weapons export company, Rosoboronexport, said it had no information that the country was planning such a sale.
In Washington, State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said, "We are against the sale of weaponry to Syria," which he called a sponsor of terrorism.
"The Russians know about our policy," Mr. Boucher said before a scheduled meeting between Secretary of State Colin L. Powell and Russian Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov.
The Igla SA-18s are among the most sophisticated shoulder-held anti-aircraft missiles available. Because of their simplicity, light weight and a built-in training system, they also are an ideal weapon for militants, military analysts said.
"We have enough problems on the ground with Syria, and we don't need more problems from the sky," Israeli Vice Prime Minister Shimon Peres said.
Israeli officials were looking at several options for dealing with the arms sale, including involving Washington.
But officials said Israel could decide to allow the deal to go through rather than risk its relations with Russia, which it has been working to improve since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
Israeli Foreign Ministry official Gideon Meir denied a report by the Moscow daily Kommersant that Israel had recalled its ambassador in response to the deal. The ambassador is in Israel but was to return to Moscow later yesterday or today, he said.
Syrian President Bashar Assad is scheduled to visit Russia from Jan. 24 to Jan. 28.
Israeli press reports say Mr. Assad was furious when Israeli jets buzzed around one of his palaces while he was in residence, and is determined to beef up his country's air defenses.
Paul Beaver, a London-based defense analyst, said Russia has been upgrading Syrian military equipment for years but has not sold the Arab country new arms since 1990.
Israeli-Russian relations have improved greatly in the past 15 years. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who is of Russian descent, has visited Moscow three times since taking office in 2001.

U.S. demands Russia cancel proposed missile sale to Syria

The United States is demanding Russia cancel its proposed sale of missiles to Syria, warning that it will consider imposing sanctions against Moscow should the deal go ahead, Israel Radio reported Wednesday.

A State Department spokesperson made the administration's stance public a short time before Secretary of State Colin Powell met with Russia's foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov.

State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said that the administration is opposed to weapons sales to Damascus, and that its position was well known to Moscow.

Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Saltanov visited Israel on Wednesday and discussed with government officials a recent crisis between Moscow and Jerusalem over reported Russian plans to sell Syria missiles capable of striking targets within Israel.

The details of the crisis were reported Wednesday in the Moscow daily Kommersant.

Saltanov, who arrived in Israel on Tuesday, met with Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom, Vice Premier Shimon Peres and senior Foreign Ministry officials.

According to the report, the Iskander-E missile has a target radius capable of reaching nearly all of Israel, including the nuclear reactor site outside Dimona.

Only the southern Negev and Eilat would be out of range.

Israeli military officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, have expressed concern that the missiles would get into the hands of Hezbollah and disrupt the military balance in the Middle East.

The Russian daily reported that Israel recalled its ambassador in Russia over the deal.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reacted to the publication Wednesday, and said there was no crisis in Israel-Russia relations.

Israel has briefed the American administration on the crisis in its relations with Russia. Israel did not ask the United States to intervene, even though the Americans have dealt with this matter in the past.

Consultations held by the political echelon in Jerusalem resulted in a decision to attempt to solve the matter through direct talks with Moscow, and not to get help from the U.S. for the time being.

Meanwhile, tension is mounting in Jerusalem ahead of Syrian President Bashar Assad's first visit to Moscow, on January 24. Assad will meet with President Vladimir Putin and discuss bilateral cooperation in various fields. Putin is scheduled to meet with U.S. President George W. Bush about a month later in Slovakia.

The Kommersant report was based on recent Haaretz accounts of a severe crisis in relations between the Sharon and Putin governments.

The Iskander is a relatively new weapons systems, having been developed in the 1990s. Two years ago, Damascus sought to purchase 18 of the systems, but the matter was delayed by final testing of the missile. The tests were completed in August.

Iraq gets ex-Soviet weapons


NATO has stepped in to boost the Iraqis’ ability to keep the peace, officials said Wednesday, organizing the shipment of thousands of AK-47 assault rifles, dozens of Soviet-designed tanks and other weapons as part of the alliance’s program to help train and equip the Iraqi military.

Romania has offered 6,000 AK-47s along with 500 machine guns, 300 sniper rifles and 100 rocket-propelled grenade launchers, while Estonia has offered 2,400 AK-47s and Denmark has offered 104 pistols, officials of the alliance told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

NATO is also arranging the transport of 77 T-72 tanks from Hungary to Iraq, they officials. All arms and military hardware were being given as a donation.

The alliance agreed last year to help coordinate the supply of weapons to Iraq’s fledgling armed forces. Several former Warsaw Pact nations that joined NATO last year have surpluses of Soviet-era equipment, which military experts say is ideal for the Iraqi military because it familiar with those weapons from the days of former President Saddam Hussein.

Officials said about 100 NATO personnel were in Iraq preparing an expansion of the alliance’s training mission, which was launched in August.

Alliance foreign ministers last month approved plans to expand the mission to about 300 personnel early this year, but officials said many of those due to deploy were still undergoing preparation.

In Afghanistan, NATO is expected to announce next month that it is ready to expand its peacekeeping mission into the west of the country. The operation, with about 8,000 troops, is currently limited to Kabul, the capital, and a northern sector.

NATO has long been trying to persuade nations to provide troops for the western expansion. Under the plans, the United States will place military units already in the cities of Herat and Farah under NATO command while European nations set up similar missions in the western towns of Chaghcharan and Qala-e-Naw.

Expanding the NATO force will allow the separate U.S.-led mission of 18,000 to focus on fighting remnants of the Taliban regime and their al-Qaida allies, primarily in the south and the east.

Alliance military planners are drawing up options for bringing the two operations together under NATO command, a move supported by the United States but questioned by Germany and France. NATO defense ministers are set to discuss the integration of the forces next month at a meeting in the French resort of Nice.
