A Billion for the MiGs

RSK MiG signed a contract with India’s defense ministry on Friday for the upgrade of 66 MiG-29 fighters before 2013, the PTI Indian State Information Agency has reported. The airplanes will be equipped with new “Zhuk-MEh” radar and their service life will be increased from 25 to 40 years.

Cost of the contract is one billion dollars. Approximately 30 percent is for construction of a service center for radar overhaul, warehousing of spare parts, simulators and other object which will allow servicing these aircraft in India.

They refused to comment at RSK MiG.

Discussions about the upgrade of the Indian MiG-29 have been going on for several years and their successful conclusion increases Moscow’s chances to win the tender taking place right now in India for the delivery of 126 fighters for a total of 10 billion dollars, a member of the defense ministry public council, Ruslan Pukhov, says: right now it is the largest military tender in the world.

India’s air force is buying airplanes for the resolution of real combat missions, the Center of Analysis of Strategies and Technologies expert Konstantin Makienko says. Consequently, Algeria’s February refusal of 34 MiG-29SMT fighters (price of the contract is 1.3 billion dollars) did not appear to have any impact on the Indian military and it is not possible to explain the cancellation of the Algerian deal by the performance of the Russian airplanes alone, the expert says. And the financial loses from Algeria’s demarche are being compensated to a significant degree by the new deal, Makienko explains. The 15 MiGs which are being returned by Algeria, will go into the Russian air force inventory, a government official states: right now the question is being resolved about the settlement of the financial aspects of this decision.

Al parecer los MiG 29 SMT argelinos pasan a la FA Rusa, se verá por fin al SMT en servicio en Rusia?

Rusia le vendera a la India tecnologias para cazas de 5ta generacion , si la India adquiere el MIG-35 , ademas adiestrara personal de la India para contruir cazas mas modernos , y con total transferencia tecnologica , asi lo manifesto el Ministerio de Defensa Ruso.

No se trata sencillamente de que Rusia le venda a la India esa tecnología por la compra, si no que la India está pagando parte del desarrollo del futuro PAK-FA T-50.
Es decir, Rusia debería de hecho pasarle cierta tecnología porque India se la está subvencionando. Las economías rusas no están para tirar cohetes aun, ni pese al gran avance que han ido dando.

El incidente ha tenido lugar hoy en Abkhazia, una región separatista en Georgia. Ya llevan unas semanas de tensión ya que Rusia ha ordenado establecer relaciones de facto con esta región. El UAV pertenecía al ministerio del interior.

Mónino (provincia de Moscú), 22 de abril, RIA Novosti. El Comandante de la Fuerza Aérea rusa, coronel general Alexandr Zelin, ha desmentido hoy que un MiG-29 ruso derribara el avión no tripulado georgiano que sobrevolaba el domingo el territorio de Abjasia.

"La Fuerza Aérea rusa nada tiene que ver con ese incidente ni tiene nada que hacer en el territorio abjasio", comentó Zelin a la prensa.

"Ya saben contra cuál país gustan lanzar calumnias los dirigentes políticos y militares de Georgia", señaló el general.


Al parecer los Rusos no estan en nada de acuerdo en que ellos fueron los responsables del derribo, los Adjacios dicen que fueron ellos. Esto se complementa con lo que dice el amigo YorkTown, para que disparar tantos misiles pudiendo emplear los cañones que no dejarían imagen alguna en el radar?.

It's a heck of a lot cheaper, yes.

However, unless you are inside the minimum range limits, there is no weapon left or some kind of malfunction, the missile (in fact) is the weapon of choice.
Anyway, air-to-air strafing run to wipe out small and slow-moving targets could be a little risky. The most important ..... UAVs don't popping flares!

The pilot is tracking from slightly below the horizontal ..... This is a perfect catch for the IRST gimbal limits and uncage the missile seeker (even if there is no functional radar acquisition and processing).
