por lo que leí oficialmente, lo que dijo el Sec. fue que se propondrá la baja del A-10 y KC-10, no que era una decision tomada...

Feb 21/14: IOC. USAF AMC declares Initial Operational Capability for the C-5M. Lockheed Martin has delivered 16 planes, and the aircraft has passed its Qualification Test, Operational Test and Evaluation, stand-up of required spares and maintenance facilities at Dover AFB and other locations, and stand-up of enough trained aircrew and maintenance personnel.

The program is far enough along that the Pentagon’s DOT&E no longer features them in testing reports.

The Air Force's Fiscal 2015 budget request includes $15.7 million to start work on a sixth generation fighter to succeed the F-22, according to budget documents. Air Force Undersecretary Eric Fanning told reporters in Washington, D.C., Tuesday that maintaining USAF’s technological edge was a “guiding principle” in building the budget, and there was recognition that “to develop these types of platforms requires long leads.” Even as the Air Force is producing the fifth-gen F-35, he said, “We need to be investing in the research and science and technology necessary to be looking at sixth generation.”

Most of those aircraft are coming from Luke Air Force Base in Arizona, which is switching from an F-16 training base to F-22 Raptor training. The F-22 is a fifth-generation stealth fighter.
Holloman lost the last of its F-22 Raptors to Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., this year in an Air Force realignment.

Holloman siempre ha sido una base operativa así como base de entrenamiento (y de ovnis tambien)

Luke basicamente siempre ha sido una base de entrenamiento

el cambio de Luke a Holloman, significa otra cosa: el wind down del entrenamiento en vipers de la USAF, y quizas comenzarla a adecuar para manejar aviones de 5a generación (y la entrada del F-35 como avión de entrenamiento en Luke)
