Bien, un articulo de aviation week publica que segun algunas fuentes de la india, el MiG-35 podría comprarse en aprox. 60 unidades, ésto en caso de que no gane el concurso. O sea, negocio aparte.

No le veo sentido... ¿Para que hizo el concurso del MRCA? Lo siento, pero es una fantasía, aunque reemplazara directamente los MiG-29 de la IAF, implicaría que todo el programa de modernización por el que la IAF pagó mil millones de dólares... ¿Para que se contrato?¿No sirven?¿Si sirven pero ya están demasiado viejos?

Si la noticia llega a ser cierta la compra se hará por cuestiones políticas para no enfadar a los rusos. India no se caracteriza por preocuparse de las cuestiones logísticas. El concurso ha servido y mucho, occidente le ha ofrecido a la India todo lo que quería y más, los rusos poco tenian que aportar que India no tuviera ya con programas como el Pak FA y el Su 30 MKI. Ahora solo les queda elegir, apuesto por el SH y el EF2000, en ese orden.

NEW DELHI: India's indigenous Awacs (airborne warning and control systems) or "eyes in the sky" project has been hit by delays even as Pakistan is fast closing the technological gap in this arena with China's active help.

Moreover, IAF's proposal to acquire two more Israeli Phalcon Awacs, after the first three were contracted under the $1.1-billion contract inked in March 2004, is yet to gather full steam. "There is in principle approval for two more Phalcon Awacs but negotiations are still in progress," said a top defence ministry source.

Awacs or AEW&C (airborne early warning and control) systems can detect incoming hostile cruise missiles and aircraft much before ground-based radars, as also act as potent force-multipliers by directing air defence fighters during combat operations with enemy jets. They can also track troop build-ups far away in enemy territory. The critical requirement for Awacs had led the Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, to clear the Rs 1,800-crore indigenous project in October 2004, barely six months after the Phalcon deal.

The CCS had then set a time-frame of seven years for development of the homegrown mini- Awacs, under which AEW&C systems developed by DRDO are being mounted on three Embraer-145 jets obtained from Brazil for $210 million.

But these AEW&C planes are nowhere near even beginning their flight trials. The project completion date has now being extended to April 2014, which itself is set to be revised. "The aircraft and mission system availability is now scheduled for this year, with the integrated system availability pushed back to 2013," said a MoD source. Once operational, these aircraft are slated to have a normal radar range of 250 km and a 375-km extended one, with a 240-degree coverage and five-hour endurance time.

The Phalcon Awacs, with a detection range over 400 km, too, have suffered from technical glitches. Under the complex project, the Israeli 360° Phalcon early-warning radar and communication suite has been mounted on Russian IL-76 heavy-lift military aircraft.

The first Phalcon Awacs was originally scheduled for delivery in December 2007, with the second and third ones following in September 2008 and March 2009. But the first arrived only in May 2009 and the second in March 2010, with the third yet to be delivered. Awacs are a crucial element in the plan underway to set up five nodes of IACCS (integrated air command and control system) across the country.

"Races ahead", así en comillas. No olvidemos que la India tiene más de un AEW&C. El principal en este momento es el PHALCON montado en Il-76 que han comprado a Israel, un sistema que por ahora está fuera del alcance de la industria China. La India además está contemplando la oferta de IAI por más PHALCONs, en versión CAEW para subsanar los asuntos de operatividad de los Ilyushin.

Luego tenemos al AEW&C Pakistaní. China tiene como cinco programas distintos en desarrollo y el que han compartido con Pakistán no parece ser ni el más ambicioso ni el más capaz.

El MiG-29 mejorado para India lleva a cabo su vuelo inaugural

.-El vuelo inaugural del MiG-28UPG ha tenido lugar en el aeródromo de Gromov LII, cercano a Moscú, a cargo de Mikhail Beliyaev, piloto de pruebas de MiG RAC. La duración del vuelo fue de aproximadamente una hora y se desarrolló de manera exitosa.

El MiG-29UPG es una versión mejorada del MiG-29, diseñado por MiG RAC a petición de la IAF (Fuerza Aérea india). De acuerdo con el contrato ruso-indio , firmado en marzo de 2008 por valor de 964 millones de dólares, el número total de aeronaves MiG-29 de la IAF que se actualizarán asciende a 63.Las aeronaves habían sido entregadas a la India en tres lotes con una variedad de configuraciones y el objetivo del contrato es dotarlas a todas de un mismo nivel avanzado.

6 MiG-29 (4 monoplazas y 2 biplazas) van a ser actualizados en las instalaciones de RAC MIG en Rusia, mientras que los 57 restantes se montarán en el IAF número 11, instalaciones de reparación de aeronaves en la India que están parcialmente suministradas por HAL y MiG. Los trabajos deben comenzar en la India este año, cuando la modernización de las seis primeras aeronaves sea completada en Rusia.

Según información de la IAF, el MiG-29UPG estará propulsado por dos motores a reacción RD-33 turbo-fan de la versión de 3M con el sistema de control electrónico “BARK”. Entre los paquetes de actualización se incluye el sistema de control remoto de KSU-941UB, el K-36D-3.5 de asientos eyectables, ordenador central digital, radar Zhuk-ME, casco montado con sistema de orientación, navegación y sistemas de radio mejorados. Los aparatos dispondrán de una alta capacidad de armamento inteligente tanto "aire-aire" como "aire-tierra". La participación internacional incluye a THALES en el sistema “friend-and-foe”, entre los otros.
